A well-written thriller with a satisfying end
I admit I was nervous to read this book given the subject matter, but I’m impressed with the author’s smart story telling ability and realistic characters. The villain will make you angry and his cruelty will shock most readers. Amber is such a strong little girl and her inability to be manipulated by her captor is remarkable. The way that the other girl, Lisa, had been brainwashed and broken after four years of being under his control was sad, but likely a realistic portrayal of a child victim’s survival instinct. This really shows the evil that can exist in a violent criminal’s mind. It was a hard read in parts, but I had faith that Amber and hopefully Lisa would survive the nightmare he forced them into.
Milton was an admirable character and his undying compassion for those kidnapped girls is what you hope anyone leading a missing child search would have. I don’t want to give anything away, but the ending is quite satisfying and as it’s a well written thriller, I couldn’t put it down.
