There’s no denying the beauty of a print book – the feel of the pages between your fingertips and how the book molds to your hands as you read. With that being said, e-books are great, too! I don’t mean for this post to be about which one is better than the other, but rather a shout out to e-books and why they’re awesome.
E-Books Make Being An Indie Author Easier Prior to Amazon launching KDP, one had to go through a vanity publisher if they couldn’t get published through the traditional route. It also would be harder for an indie author to sell print books without the distribution and marketing power provided by a big publishing company. E-books are easier to sell because they’re a) cheaper and b) less of a commitment than a print book. Once e-books became popular, a lot of readers took advantage of the cheaper, easier to obtain stories, allowing the opportunity for indie authors to make more sales. On KDP, you also get a much higher % of profit from an e-book – 75% if your price is between $2.99 and $9.99.
E-Books Save Space Not everyone has the luxury of space or book shelves. As a minimalist who moves around fairly often, I don’t have room for more than a couple of print books. Would I love to have a book shelf one day? Yes – when and if I ever want to settle in a place long enough to get a book shelf and fill it with books. For now, I can store limitless books in my Kindle app and support a lot of authors in the process.
E-Books Are More Affordable If you love to read a lot, e-books are more economical. Not everyone has a high or stable income, so it’s much easier to pick up a book for $3.99 that you can read instantly than spend $15+ on a print book. Of course, this comes down to priorities. Some readers would rather buy one or two print books per year and fully enjoy them while others would rather buy 30 e-books and read them on their phone/e-reader/computer.
E-Books Are Instantly Available I love that you can order any e-book on Amazon and read it the moment you’ve bought it. There’s no waiting for a print book to ship out. You just sync that Kindle app and BOOM it’s right there. 🙂
I hope you enjoyed this blog post today. Have a good one. ❤
* Looking for a new e-book? My newest release Inspiration is available on Kindle for only $3.99! ❤
I like that ebooks are fairly easy to create – and definitely easy to upload. Cover pdf + interior in a format the Kindle can make flowable (so readers can alter font, font size, etc., to make it most comfortable for them), and you’re up and running.
There is a lot to learn, but it isn’t hard once you have your content set up. They’re pretty good at guiding you.
That’s so true. It is quite easy and you don’t need to worry as much about formatting the book. And you’re also right that KDP makes it really easy for you to set things up!
There’s definitely a place for ebooks, along with the paperback and the hardback I would get for a really treasured book. IS that bad? lol
Nope not at all.
