Why I Prefer At-Home Workouts

I’ve been a fit girl for a long time now. I workout 4-6 days per week on average. While going to the gym has its benefits, I’ve found that working out at home fits better in my routine.

I Get Better Results At Home

While I started my fitness journey at the gym, in more recent years I’ve preferred home workouts. In all honesty, I’ve achieved better results at home than I ever did at the gym. I think it’s because shorter workouts can be more focused if you’re doing the right amount of sets and reps. With some weights, you can get great results working out in your own room. When I was at the gym, I did a lot of treadmill and/or bicycle exercises, which was great for my cardio health, but I wasn’t focusing on toning or strength. The way I workout fluctuates depending on what type of job I have. If it’s more physical, I’ll probably workout a little less (3 or 4 times per week) and focus more on strength workouts to maximize my time. If I’m working at a desk job, I’ll workout 5-6 days per week and do more cardio in addition to weights to counteract how often I’ve been sitting.

Less Waiting Time

Depending on when you workout, the gym can be busy or even packed and you might have to wait to use the equipment/weights you’re paying a monthly fee for. For some people it’s totally worth it, but for me I’d rather just have everything I need at home.

More Privacy

Sometimes there’s no place like home. In the privacy of your own home, you can do whatever workouts you want and no one’s going to watch you. Even at a women’s only gym, it’s kinda weird for me doing booty-focused workouts with a bunch of people around. I’m more likely to get more reps in if I know nobody’s watching. This is just my opinion. We’ve all got our own motivations.

Home Workouts Can Be Really Fun

I’m aware that many gyms have fitness classes. I’ve done a few group workouts before and they are pretty fun. I just noticed for the long term, I’m more motivated if my routine is individual. I like getting my workout in and moving on with the rest of evening. If I want to socialize, it will be over a coffee, dinner, walk, or shopping. At-home workouts can be really fun in that they can be dance-themed or the fitness instructor can have a cool playlist you might not have heard before.

You Can Workout While Watching TV

Who can argue against efficiency? If you workout at home, you can watch a show or movie while doing your favourite exercises. I usually do workouts to video routines, but sometimes if I’m binging a show, I’ll just put it on and do my workout to get two things done at once.

It Saves Money

While many gym memberships aren’t too pricey, you do save money working out at home. That $50/month could go into a savings account or something else you might want to buy.

  1. I prefer home workouts. Once upon at time, I was at the gym everyday. My supervisor and mental health clients would “try” to discuss business. No amount of boundaries I set stopped the behavior. I purchased a total gym, free weights, and a step. Little by little I added more things to keep me in the gym. I get up before everyone everyday and get it done.

  2. Yeah I prefer home workouts too although I am not the type of guy that does regular exercise, I just sit sometimes and roam around the house doing no push ups. My best form of exercise it is to just Walk

Great post and keep it up with the workouts , I can imagine you being as strong as an ox. Watch out Wonder woman 🏋😂💯

  3. Yes, moving across the country was terrifying. We decided to live a simpler life and connect to the earth more. I was always a creature of habit, then one day I fell madly in soul with my soul mate.

    • That’s so cool. 🙂 I love your story and I’m glad you have found your soul mate. It’s refreshing to hear you are connecting more with the earth. I think I’ve been connected so much with social media for my books that it’s taken its toll in a lot of ways. I think I’ll be cutting out at least one account for the new year, maybe more (Not WordPress though lol I find it pretty down to earth here). I hope you have happy holidays! ❤

  4. I cut down on the people I have allowed to follow me. When I publish my book that will be different accounts. One of the things we do as a family is to do media fasts. Nothing for a week couple of times a year. I hope you have Happy Holidays as well.

  5. It’s supposed to be better to focus on our movements rather than distract ourselves with the screen, but I’m not there yet. =) Your post gives me the push I need to get back on the horse this season. Merry Christmas.

  6. Merry Christmas, Sara! You’re so right( I mean you always are). I exercise normally 3 to 5 times per week at home. I’m always searching for techniques to add to my routine and ultimately improve my health. Repetition is the goal 🙂

  7. It’s amazing and nice post I’m totally agree because I do yoga and workout at home . 😝it’s fun for me . because I can do it in my ways 🤣. (Just kidding ) .thank you.
