Why I Write Stuff

Creative types know the feeling of being overwhelmed by an idea. It bounces around in your mind until it takes full form and you might just explode if you don`t express it. If you don`t write it, draw it, sing it, or play it, a part of you dies. You do it because you need to.

When you`re a writer, pretty much anything can inspire you. People, relationships, emotions, music, movies, photographs, fashion, the weather, the landscape, etc. I am inspired by things everyday. When you take an inspiration and it becomes an idea, a story starts to form. Even if no one will ever read it or like it, I write it down anyway. Because that is what I need to do. You can go wherever you want to go and do whatever you want to do through your characters. It`s so cool.

I can`t even think about what it would be like if I didn`t write.

Writers, why do you write?

  1. Like you, there’s an urgency to the story I write, the feeling that if I don’t put them down, they’ll drive me crazy before the month is over. Well, crazier, too.

There’s something else, though, about this type of storytelling that drew me to it. Perhaps it’s because in the end, all I do is put words on a page… and yet it’s so much more, isn’t it?

It’s a spark of life, of love, of abandon, and I’m not sure I could live without it. Not anymore.

  2. I found this and thought of you Sara…. “If you see me staring off into space, just know that I am in my own little world talking to my characters for a story”

  3. You certainly know all of my muses well. Yes, it is precisely as you describe for me too! I don’t feel alone anymore 🙂 I sometimes recount a scene in my head and I’m oblivious to my surroundings. My imagery makes it very real. Then when I write it, it is retold differently as I try to find the right words to describe what I saw in my mind. The end result is sort of a compromise between my vision and the result but both parts of me – the dreamer and writer – are satisfied in the end even though I might still have reservations about publishing what I wrote, I’m satisfied I captured it.
